Each year, Weiss & Paarz offers a rising star scholarship of $1,000 to an exceptional student starting or continuing their education anywhere in the United States of America.

A rising star is someone with a remarkable work ethic, impressive leadership qualities, and the ability to stay strong in the face of adversity. If this sounds like you or someone you know, find out how to apply for this opportunity below.

We understand that America’s youth has the ability to better our world through outstanding moral character, commitment to improving our communities, and a dedication to higher education.

We are excited to announce the sixth year of this scholarship opportunity. Scholarships will be awarded each year to a student who demonstrates all of the following characteristics:

  • Financial need
  • Exceptional work ethic
  • Strength in the face of adversity
  • Outstanding academic achievement
  • Commitment to the local community and charitable giving
  • Ability to lead others
  • Overall moral character

Special consideration will be given to students who have an interest in law. Students must submit their application by 09.30.22 and all applications must include the following:

  • Curriculum Vitae or Resume listing work experience, educational background, and high school and college grade point average and class rank, if applicable;
  • Personal Statement, which includes a description of your career goals and what you plan to use the scholarship funding for (2 pages maximum);
  • Confirmation of enrollment in an undergraduate institution or copy of your current student ID; and a copy of your state ID or driver’s license

      We are thrilled to announce the fifth year of this exciting scholarship opportunity. Scholarships will be awarded each year to the student who demonstrates all of the following qualities and characteristics:

          2020’s Weiss & Paarz Annual National Law Scholarship

          2020’s Weiss & Paarz Annual National Law Scholarship will be awarded to Lauren Bess, a 3L at Rutgers Law School. Lauren is the president of the Rutgers Law class of 2021, the lead business and marketing editor for the school’s Journal of Law and Religion, and has used her own experience as a cancer survivor to advocate for greater opportunities and accommodations for those with disabilities. 

          2020’s Weiss & Paarz Annual Rising Star Scholarship

          2020’s Weiss & Paarz Annual Rising Star Scholarship will be awarded to Hannah Imolode, a high school senior with a GPA above 4.0!  Hannah’s family immigrated to the United States from Nigeria. She plans to pursue a career in nursing with an ultimate goal of one day opening a non-profit nurse practitioner center specifically designed to help improve the quality of Nigerian healthcare for those in need.

            W&P’s Local Hero Scholarship 2020

            This year Weiss & Paarz proudly sponsored a scholarship dear to our hearts through the Mainland Regional Education Association in our local community. Each year this special award is presented to a hardworking graduating senior student at Mainland Regional High School in Linwood, NJ. Selected recipients are recognized for having taken time out of their hectic academic and extracurricular schedules to form close bonds with, and to mentor, special needs students.

            We would like to extend a special congratulations to this year’s recipient, Olivia Mekhail, for her $1,500 award! We were instantly touched by your story, Olivia, and we are so proud to contribute to your promising future!               Weiss & Paarz is a law firm that specializes exclusively in medical malpractice cases.                 We are pleased to announce the recipients of our 2019 annual scholarships! Due to the overwhelming response we received this year, we took some extra time to thoroughly review our applicant pool. We appreciate your patience.                 This year’s Weiss & Paarz Annual National Law Scholarship will be awarded to Madelyn Chen, a 1L at Harvard Law School. Madelyn is pursuing a law degree with an ultimate goal of serving the public. She has demonstrated an inspiring perseverance, academic excellence, and true strength in the face of adversity. We admire her goals and the work this outstanding young woman has put in to achieve them.

                This year’s Weiss & Paarz Annual Rising Star Scholarship will be awarded to Shirel Levy, an undergraduate student at Emory University studying Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology. Shirel’s dream is to become a pediatric cardiologist. She exhibits an outstanding academic record and work ethic as she puts herself through school. She has a passion for helping those that are facing major health crises and we are proud to support her efforts.

                  Weiss & Paarz 2018 Scholarship Winners

                  We are pleased to announce the recipients of our 2018 annual scholarships! Due to the overwhelming response we received this year, we took an extra week to review our applicant pool, so we appreciate your patience. We encourage those of you who applied and were not selected to apply again next year. Since it was so difficult to make these selections from so many deserving students, we ask that you stay tuned to our Med Mal Blog for updates on additional scholarships we will be creating for the 2019-2020 application period!

                  This year’s Weiss & Paarz Annual National Law Scholarship will be awarded to Marina Allen, a 2L at the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. Marina is pursuing a legal career in health law and spent this past summer working for Indiana’s Attorney General as a medical licensing law clerk, investigating consumer complaints about medical professionals and writing up administrative summaries to identify statutory violations and if necessary, make charging recommendations. She continues to explore a career in health law from a varied perspective this Fall through an externship with Indiana University Health’s Corporate Legal Services. Marina has also been selected as Riley Children’s Hospital’s 2018-2019 Leadership in Education Neurodevelopmental Disabilities Law Fellow. This position will train her to help manage health care delivery processes for families and children with chronic neurodevelopmental disorders. Marina is the first in her family to obtain a higher education and we are proud to provide some financial assistance in her quest to better our healthcare system.

                  This year’s Weiss & Paarz Annual Local Law Scholarship will be awarded to Corey Repasy, a 1L at Rutgers Law School. Corey is pursuing a career in public interest law, which she developed an interest in after a series internships and work experiences focused on promoting human rights and educational equality for women in the Middle East. Currently, Corey is a paralegal at the Center for Family Representation, which is a non-profit dedicated to maintaining family units by keeping children out of the foster care system. She seeks to improve the legal system for disadvantaged populations with her future degree.

                  This year’s Weiss & Paarz Annual Rising Star Scholarship will be awarded to Jessica Ortiz, an undergraduate student at University of California – Riverside. Jessica graduated from high school with three Associate’s degrees and was valedictorian at the community college where her degrees were awarded. She served as editor-in-chief of her high school yearbook and spent her free time volunteering at a local church. After her sister was diagnosed with cancer at a young age, Jessica continued to maintain a 4.0 GPA. Throughout this experience, she developed a passion for healthcare and seeks a degree that will allow her to help other families facing major health crises.
