JOSEPH L. DESTEFANO, MD, FACOG has been a women’s healthcare specialist for over 40 years. He began practicing as a physician of obstetrics and gynecology in 1970 and has been board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology since 1976. Dr. DeStefano graduated Georgetown College and Medical School, where he also completed his OB-GYN residency.
Dr. DeStefano has devoted himself to the advancement of women’s health care at the local, state, regional, and national level. Through his years of active practice, he has developed expertise in evaluating cases with adverse outcomes related to obstetrical and gynecological care. His personal dedication to women’s health care has enhanced the firm’s ongoing mission to help victims of medical malpractice and negligence recover; “I believe that quality women’s health care is a right for all women and not a privilege.”
Dr. DeStefano is a past President of the New Jersey OB-GYN Society and the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of OB-GYN and has been an active member of both. He also served as a past member of the New Jersey Medical Society Select Committee for investigating and evaluating maternal deaths in the State of New Jersey, as well as a past member of the Medical Expert Advisory Panel of the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners. Additionally, he served as the Department Chair of his hospital.
When he’s not working, Dr. DeStefano enjoys spending time with his wife of 49 years, Rita, and their 3 children and 6 grandchildren. Their home close to the ocean serves as a gathering place for all their aspiring swimmers, surfers, and fishermen (of varying abilities). Dr. DeStefano also enjoys swimming, fishing, and traveling, especially to Italy where his family still maintains a small, rustic home and vineyard in the Campobasso Region.
