JULIE E. NUGENT, ESQ. is an associate with the firm licensed to practice in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. In 2013, Ms. Nugent received her Juris Doctor with Honors and a Certificate in Environmental Law from Widener University School of Law. Prior to joining Weiss & Paarz, Ms. Nugent served as judicial law clerk to the Honorable Nelson C. Johnson, J.S.C. (ret.).
Professional Memberships & Awards
Ms. Nugent has been selected as a Super Lawyers Rising Star in the field of Medical Malpractice in 2017, 2018 and 2019. This achievement is exclusive to just 2.5% of attorneys under the age of 40 practicing within a state. In 2019, Ms. Nugent received the Atlantic County Top 40 Under 40 Award, which is an annual award given by the Atlantic County Junior Chamber of Commerce to professionals under the age of 40 in recognition of their career and community achievements.
In addition, Ms. Nugent currently serves on the New Jersey Supreme Court District I Ethics Committee. Ms. Nugent is also on the Board of Trustees for the Atlantic County Bar Association, and she is the former chair of the Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division. She also serves on the Programming Committee and Executive Board of the Vincent S. Haneman American Inn of Court. In addition, Ms. Nugent is the Atlantic County Coordinator for the New Jersey State Bar Foundation’s Vincent J. Apruzzese High School Mock Trial Competition each year.
Ms. Nugent’s other professional associations include the New Jersey Association for Justice; Pennsylvania Association for Justice; American Association for Justice; New Jersey State Bar Association; Pennsylvania State Bar Association; The Association of the Federal Bar of New Jersey; and American Bar Association. Ms. Nugent has also given lectures on various medical malpractice topics for the New Jersey Association and New Jersey State Bar Association.
Medical Malpractice Background & Education
Ms. Nugent graduated from Boston University School of Management with a B.S. in business administration and dual concentration in Business Law and Finance.
Immediately after college, Ms. Nugent attended Widener University School of Law on a full academic merit scholarship. While in law school, Ms. Nugent served as the Bluebook Editor of The Widener Law Review and participated in Widener’s Intensive Trial Advocacy Program. She also participated in Widener’s Environmental & Natural Resources Law Clinic, advocating on behalf of not-for-profit organizations and individuals seeking to protect the local environment, and was a contributor to The New Jersey Environmental Law Handbook (8th Ed.).
Since joining the firm, Ms. Nugent has dedicated her legal career exclusively to plaintiff’s medical malpractice cases.
Ms. Nugent currently lives in Northfield, New Jersey, the town where she grew up, with her husband and dog, Ellie. She can often be found exploring the local farm markets, biking around town, or relaxing on the Ocean City Beach and Boardwalk with her family and friends.
While in college, Ms. Nugent served as a volunteer at the Boston Marathon, was a student-organizer for Relay for Life, and volunteered at the local animal shelter. Through her involvement with the ACBA and Young Lawyers Division, Ms. Nugent has also helped plan, organize and sponsor numerous community outreach programs that benefit underprivileged students and families in Atlantic County. Ms. Nugent currently volunteers regularly for the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City, Gilda’s Club South Jersey, and the Community FoodBank of New Jersey.
