JULIE E. NUGENT, ESQ. is an associate with the firm licensed to practice in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey, and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.
Since 2016, Ms. Nugent has served as a Trustee of the Atlantic County Bar Association’s Executive Board of Officers & Trustees, and she is the former Chair of the Atlantic County Young Lawyers’ Division. Since 2018, she has served on the Executive Board of the Vincent S. Haneman American Inn of Court, and since 2016 has been a member of the Inn’s Programming Committee. In addition, in 2019 Ms. Nugent was appointed by the New Jersey State Bar Foundation to serve as the Atlantic County Coordinator for the New Jersey Vincent J. Apruzzese High School Mock Trial Competition, which she continued to coordinate each year for high schools in Atlantic County. Ms. Nugent has also lectured on several medical malpractice topics for the New Jersey Association for Justice and New Jersey State Bar Association.
Since 2017, Ms. Nugent has been selected as a Super Lawyers Rising Star in the field of Plaintiffs’-Medical Malpractice each year. This achievement is exclusive to just 2.5% of attorneys under the age of 40 practicing within a state. In 2019, Ms. Nugent received the Atlantic County Top 40 Under 40 Award, which is an annual award given by the Atlantic County Junior Chamber of Commerce to professionals under the age of 40 in recognition of their career and community achievements.
In 2020, Ms. Nugent was selected as the recipient of the Honorable Benjamin A. Rimm Award, which is presented each year to a young lawyer who exhibits professional integrity, a strong devotion to the legal profession, and a special dedication to the people of Atlantic County at large. Attorneys are judged by their demeanor and attitude towards fellow bar members and the general public, their public service efforts, their participation in civil activities which benefit Atlantic County residents, their philanthropic efforts, their integrity and respect for others, and their performance as an attorney.
Ms. Nugent’s other professional associations include the New Jersey Association for Justice; Pennsylvania Association for Justice; American Association for Justice; New Jersey State Bar Association; Pennsylvania State Bar Association; The Association of the Federal Bar of New Jersey; and American Bar Association.
Ms. Nugent graduated from Boston University School of Management with a B.S. in business administration and dual concentration in Business Law and Finance. Immediately after college, Ms. Nugent attended Widener University School of Law on a full academic merit scholarship. While in law school, Ms. Nugent served as the Bluebook Editor of The Widener Law Review and participated in Widener’s Intensive Trial Advocacy Program. She also participated in Widener’s Environmental & Natural Resources Law Clinic, advocating on behalf of not-for-profit organizations and individuals seeking to protect the local environment. Her performed in the clinic earned her the GreenWatch Institute Scholarship Award in Memory of Jerry Shields, awarded annually to a graduating law student based on the his/her outstanding performance in the law school’s clinic and a demonstration of a commitment to public interest advocacy.
In 2013, Ms. Nugent received her Juris Doctor with Honors and a Certificate in Environmental Law from Widener University School of Law. Prior to joining Weiss & Paarz, Ms. Nugent served as judicial law clerk to the Honorable Nelson C. Johnson, J.S.C. (ret.) for the 2013-2014 term.
Since joining the firm in 2014, Ms. Nugent has dedicated her entire legal career exclusively to plaintiff’s medical malpractice cases.
While in college, Ms. Nugent served as a volunteer at the finish line of the Boston Marathon, she was a student-organizer for Relay for Life, and volunteered at the local animal shelter. She also was a founding member of the Nu chapter of the professional business fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi, at Boston University. Through her involvement with the Atlantic County Bar Association and Young Lawyers Division, since 2013 Ms. Nugent has also helped plan, organize and sponsor numerous community outreach programs that benefit underprivileged students and families of Title I schools in Atlantic County as well as various CLE programs for attorneys.
Ms. Nugent has also served as a volunteer member of various event committees for Gilda’s Club of South Jersey; CASA of South Jersey; and the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City, and also served on the Ocean City Arts Center Board of Trustees. Since 2018, she has been a member of the Stockton University Women’s Leadership Council, and she also volunteers her time annually as a mentor to undergraduate students completing their degrees at Stockton.
Ms. Nugent currently lives in Northfield, New Jersey, where she was born and raised, with her husband and dog, Ellie. She can often be found exploring the local farm markets, biking around town, or relaxing on the Ocean City Beach and Boardwalk with her family and friends.
